Niagara Dance Centre's competition program provides more space for a dancer to learn and progress in class, to grow as teammates and as artists, and to perform on stage with more presence and confidence. They are ambassadors of our studio values and commit to additional training and performance opportunities in and out of the studio. At NDC, we offer three levels of competition:
- COMPANY: Company dancers will be exposed to additional training in addition to recreational classes. They will take a jazz routine to three regional competitions.
- COMPANY PLUS: Company dancers with at least one year of experience will have the option to add on a tap routine.
- COMPETITION TEAM: Competition team dancers compete lyrical, tap, and jazz routines at three regional competitions. Options to compete other styles, such as hip hop, contemporary, acro, and musical theatre may be available based on placement, interest, and enrollment.
Interested dancers will attend a placement session prior to the upcoming season. Many factors contribute to our assessment of a dancer’s readiness for a level. They include technical proficiency, musicality, artistry, work style/ethic, resilience, attitude, attendance, and more. Dancers perform best when they feel confident, and so we are intentional about team placement. But ultimately, we will always find a place for a dancer who wants to compete.
